Comprehensive spending review – 20 October

Students: Why we must all protest!

The brutal Con-Dem government’s spending review on 20 October is expected to announce further devastating cuts in jobs and services.
The two quotes below are from young people who will join protests on the day of the review which Youth Fight for Jobs and Socialist Students are organising.
As the quotes show, young workers and students need to fight together for a decent future. You should join them!

Get in touch via www.youthfightforjobs.com and www.socialiststudents.org.uk and organise action in your area on 20 October.

“I am protesting on 20 October because I want to have the right to a real job with decent pay. I work as an agency worker in a call centre.

Our jobs can be lost at any time without notice and the wages that we get aren’t enough to pay the bills.

Young people employed by agencies should have the chance of a permanent job that pays enough for them to survive!”

Becci Heagney, Leicester

“We’re protesting because the draft of the Browne Review said tuition fees are likely to double – they are already too high.

At the moment we only get eight hours’ contact time a week for £3,000 a year! Why should young people have to pay for the bankers’ mistakes with cuts from a government that doesn’t represent us?”
