Support Egyptian students at German University in Cairo

The CWI website has reported this week on a students’ struggle for an independent, democratic students’ union at the German University in Cairo (GUC). See: http://www.socialistworld.net/index.php/5413

The GUC students have campaigned for months for democratic rights and have protested over inadequate staffing levels, poor library and computer resources, overcrowded lecture halls and rising fees.

This was met with bans on student meetings on campus, the suspension of 30 students last March, and the suspension of lectures and seminars by the GUC authorities at the start of November. On 10 November, the GUC administration suspended the Students’ Union official email.

The CWI is calling for protest messages to be sent to the university management to condemn its repressive actions and demand the reinstatement of any suspended or expelled students.
