Labour MP condones pension cuts on Question Time

The following letter has been sent to the media by member of the Socialist Party and ‘Liverpool 47’ Tony Mulhearn:

With friends like these…

The day after a magnificent strike of some 2.5 million workers the need for a new mass party of the working class was confirmed on BBC’s Question Time.

Unite the Union-sponsored Labour MP Chuka Umunna revealed he did not use his vote as his gold plated pension was not affected, and he was opposed to the strike anyway. The public pension problem ‘had to be addressed’ he said.

Tory Minister Ken Clarke was so delighted with Chuka that he congratulated him on recognising that there was a ‘problem’.

Clarke has spent the last ten years on the boards of the country’s most prosperous companies: British American Tobacco, Alliance Unichem, Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust, Centaurus Capital Hedge Fund, receiving tasty remunerations.

If you close your eyes you can see the cash cascading into his already bloated bank account. This is in addition to his parliamentary salary and his £1 million pension pot.

This sleek member of the millionaires’ cabinet uttered the usual claptrap that while ‘sympathising’ with millions of public sector workers, ‘tough decisions had to be made’ because there was no money left. A classical Tory distortion.

In fact there are billions swilling around in the taxpayer subsidised banks, and billions salted away by Clarke’s friends in off-shore accounts.

Plus the £100 billion of unpaid taxes. If all this wealth was harnessed for the benefit of the 99% the deficit problem could be solved overnight.

That’s why it is essential that opposition to all cuts should be maintained.
