Donate to the election appeal!

Ken Douglas, Socialist Party national treasurer

The Socialist Party is appealing for £15,000 to help finance our election campaigns for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) in the council and mayoral elections and No2EU in the European elections. Part of the appeal has also gone to support the Workers and Socialist Party (WASP), steps towards a new mass workers’ party in South Africa.

We appeal to all our members and supporters, to all readers of the Socialist, to donate. The election campaign’s final week will see a last push by Socialist Party members, trade unionists and community campaigners, to ensure working class people know there is an alternative to the programme of endless austerity from the three main capitalist parties.

Whatever the elections’ outcome, a bit of history has already been made. From the youngest candidates like 18-year-old Corrina Smith in Gateshead, to Patrick Ryan in Plymouth, at 93 the oldest TUSC candidate, all participants in TUSC are part of the process that is paving the way for the establishment of a new mass party of the working class.

Whichever capitalist party wins these elections, and next year’s general election, the result will be more misery for working class people. However, it doesn’t have to be like this. The working class is the most powerful force in society. With a united strategy of coordinated strike action to fight job losses, zero-hour contracts, privatisation and cuts backed by campaigns in every local community and our own political voice, no one could stand in our way. That is our aim.

That’s why the Socialist Party is in the forefront of every campaign to defend our living standards, our local services and above all else the struggle to build a political alternative, a powerful voice for working people.

But we also have a vision of the future, of a socialist society where the tremendous wealth in the world is democratically planned and controlled for the benefit of all; where the world’s abundant natural resources are conserved and husbanded for the benefit of future generations.

Can you donate £10, £20, £100 or more to support this historic challenge? Every pound will take us closer to our target and will make a difference in this campaign. You can donate via the election appeal button on our website socialistparty.org.uk telephone 0208 9888777 or send a cheque, payable to the Socialist Party, to PO Box 24697, London E11 1YD.
