Getting into god’s chamber

Mike Barker

I emailed the Diocese of Leicester to ask why TUSC had not been invited to its five-way debate.

They initially responded by saying, they “had to restrict ourselves to inviting representatives of the major national political parties, to be members of our panel”; adding that to invite more people would simply have been unmanageable.

I questioned the logic of this decision as there are only six political parties standing parliamentary candidates across Leicester. I also pointed out given that all candidates from all parties must by law be invited to participate in public hustings events, or else they have to be included in attending candidates’ election expenses.

The Diocese of Leicester has now invited TUSC to participate in its hustings.
