Socialist Party congress appeal

The finance appeal at the Socialist Party congress was a great success, raising a total of £8,193. The Socialist Party has no big-business backers, relying on the support of ordinary working-class people and donations and subscriptions from our members and supporters. It shows the commitment to socialist ideas that we collect enough to produce all our leaflets, posters and other material and fund our campaigning work.

A proportion of members’ regular subscriptions also goes to the Committee for a Workers’ International, the international socialist organisation to which the Socialist Party is affiliated. The pioneering work carried out by CWI members in all its sections across the world is inpiring and, as Paula Mitchell pointed out in her congress appeal, one of the best ways to help the other sections of the international is also by financing and building the Socialist Party in England and Wales.

If you haven’t yet made a donation we would urge you to contribute to the appeal and if you made a pledge, please send any outstanding money in as soon as possible.

While Blair’s pro-big business government is determined to spend £76 billion on Trident at the same time as cutting the NHS, the Socialist Party will continue to battle both against Trident and the attacks on the NHS. The anti-war and anti-Trident demo on Saturday revealed the discontent caused by Blair’s policies and the need for a political alternative.

Well done to those members on the demo who contributed to one of the liveliest contingents and helped raise over £120 in fighting fund. The money is still coming in – if you haven’t sent yours off yet make sure you put it in the post this week.
