Goldsmiths Socialist Students Society: Russia 1917 - When workers took power

Wednesday 1st November 2017, 14:15

Richard Hoggart Building, room RHB 220a, Goldsmiths College, University of London, Dixon Rd, London SE14 6YZ

In October 1917, the Bolshevik Party led Russia to revolution and began to establish workers' democracy. Today, world events are becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable. Standards of living for the majority are falling, while the super-rich accumulate obscene levels of wealth. Does all this mean the system is, once again, ripe for change? We will be talking about the successes and failures of the revolution and how we can use the lessons of it to build a new society in the 21st century.
