Dozens of militant trade unionists to address Socialism 2018

A Socialist Party press release, 8/11/18

Militant trade unionists from around the country will participate in Socialism 2018, this weekend in central London.

Rob Williams, the Socialist Party’s industrial organiser said:

“We’re really pleased to welcome so many working class fighters from different areas, unions and industries. A Glasgow equal pay striker will address the main rally on Saturday night, along with a trade unionist fighting for justice for Windrush victims.

PCS assistant general secretary Chris Baugh will also speak at the Saturday rally and Marion Lloyd from the NEC of that union will address the closing rally [3pm on Sunday].

In an important workshop discussing ‘can unions fight austerity?’ there’ll be a panel including Birmingham homecare strikers, the president of the RMT transport union and the assistant general secretary of Unite.

Trade unionists will be leading other discussions too – including the secretary of Manchester TUC in a workshop on the role of the working class in fighting racism.

In another session a member of the RMT executive will give a report from a recent visit to Israel/Palestine.

A member of the executive of the NEU teachers’ union will speak in a panel discussion called ‘Women’s Lives Matter’.

It’s great that Socialism 2018 can offer a forum for bringing these trade unionists and many more together to discuss the urgent questions facing our movement.”

Workers fighting back will be a major theme of the weekend where over a thousand socialists will come together to debate and discuss ideas to change the world throughout 37 workshops and two major rallies.
