Plymouth dockyard
There was a walkout of over 1,000 'non-industrial' workers at Plymouth Dockyard on 31 August. A 94% turnout resulted in the yard grinding to a halt. Work on ships, submarines and trains was abandoned as members of Prospect showed their 'reluctant' anger over pay.
This privatised yard, an essential part of Plymouth's employment and industry has this week been taken over by Babcock International. Prospect members tend to be supervisory staff who oversee blue collar workers.
