Why I joined the Socialist Party
It's not working any more, is it? Inequality; that you can lose your job so the rich owner can shovel up another few pence; that you can work but not afford to live, hounded by debt collectors, unable to afford to even be warm. And our leaders, not liked, not respected and, increasingly, not even voted for.
I am the daughter of a trade unionist so not a stranger to socialism. That familiarity makes it easy to see socialism as, not just a solution, but the only solution. All our problems are because of capitalism. I think it's going to be just a matter of time. People will come to the same conclusion.
What did Einstein say? The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result? People bounce between Labour and Conservative and hate both, and see it's all getting worse and worse.
Ukip is just a symptom in my view. Eventually, equality will be the issue of our time and the need to save the planet. That will be the time for socialism to prove itself. Be ready!
