Capitalists anxious about anger against inequality are urging reforms to assuage bitter workers.

Luggage magnate Tim Parker, the Tories’ newly appointed head of the Post Office and National Trust, wants higher taxes! “A free-market system needs citizens to believe that the method of redistributing income is fair.” He called for income tax on the super-rich of “roughly half”.

Meanwhile, Labour’s new business advisor, tech boss Anthony Watson, suggests a minimum wage of £35,000.

As the threat of political action against them grows, more and more capitalists argue for restraint. Better to toss us some scraps than risk a movement against the system itself.

The Socialist would welcome the above measures. But we fight for public ownership and democratic workers’ control – or what the bosses grant today, they’ll take tomorrow.
