1,000-strong rally in London this weekend

Over a thousand socialists will come together on 10 and 11 November to debate and discuss ideas to change the world.

Socialism 2018 is an annual event in central London with 37 workshops and two major rallies.

Socialism 2018 organiser Sarah Sachs-Eldridge says:

"We're very excited to welcome everyone again this year - there's never been more need to discuss the ideas and tactics needed to give working class and young people a decent standard of living.

"The highlight will be the Saturday night rally where Kshama Sawant, socialist Seattle city councillor, will speak about the battle in that city to tax Amazon in order to fund affordable housing.

"But we've got something for everyone. The full schedule of workshops is out now. From Brexit to environmental crisis, from the fight against racism to the development of artificial intelligence, socialists have got the answers to the big questions of today.

"Our speakers are all at the forefront of the movement and will give informative and interesting introductions, but the weekend is made by all the attendees who participate in the discussions, are encouraged to ask questions and put their point of view."

Finance appeal

The coronavirus crisis has laid bare the class character of society in numerous ways. It is making clear to many that it is the working class that keeps society running, not the CEOs of major corporations.

The results of austerity have been graphically demonstrated as public services strain to cope with the crisis.

The government has now ripped up its 'austerity' mantra and turned to policies that not long ago were denounced as socialist. But after the corona crisis, it will try to make the working class pay for it, by trying to claw back what has been given.

  • The Socialist Party's material is more vital than ever, so we can continue to report from workers who are fighting for better health and safety measures, against layoffs, for adequate staffing levels, etc.
  • When the health crisis subsides, we must be ready for the stormy events ahead and the need to arm workers' movements with a socialist programme - one which puts the health and needs of humanity before the profits of a few.
Inevitably, during the crisis we have not been able to sell the Socialist and raise funds in the ways we normally would.
We therefore urgently appeal to all our viewers to donate to our Fighting Fund.
