BBC threatens hundreds of jobs

After announcing a six-year plan to cut 2,500 jobs, BBC management have withdrawn plans to issue redundancy letters and have agreed to talks with the trade unions – NUJ, Bectu and Unite. This was after the unions voted to start a strike ballot if meaningful negotiations did not take place.

The issue of letters was postponed for two weeks.

Protesting about the proposed cuts at the BBC will be part of the NUJ day of action on 5 November, where one of the events the union is organising is a lobby of the Society of Editors conference in Manchester.
