London students demonstrate against police repression

300 students are demonstrating this afternoon around central London campuses in defiance of police repression.

Many students are carrying Socialist Students placards calling for the National Union of Students to call a national demonstration.

Police have already lined up in riot gear.

Update (4.30pm): The demo has swelled as it marches all around the Bloomsbury campuses of the University of London (UOL), with students chanting “whose university? Our university!”

This is a chant directed at UOL management as much as police for attacking the democratic rights of the Univiersity of London Union (ULU).

  • Socialist Students has called a #copsoffcampus day of action on Wednesday 11 December along with other groups.
  • A Socialist Students meeting – cops, kettles and batons: a Marxist view of the state – is being held on Tuesday 10 December, 3pm at Birkbeck, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HX
