Since the pro-Kurdish party, the HDP (People’s Democratic Party), won over 12% of the vote in the Turkish elections last year, the Turkish state has imposed a military siege on the mainly Kurdish southeast of the country. Curfews on towns and cities have been enforced with tanks on the streets and snipers on roofs. Nearly 200 people, including children, have been murdered, on top of many arrests.
For the first time in the UK, it has been decided to call a national demonstration in solidarity with Kurdish people, under the slogan ‘Break the Silence’, as the brutal attacks are unreported in the UK press.
