1 in 5 parliamentary seats set to have a TUSC choice on 7 May

A Socialist party press release, 6.4.15

The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) is fielding the biggest working class challenge in generations on 7 May. Across England, Wales and Scotland a coalition of trade unionists, students, campaigners and others will mount a challenge in over 130 seats.

  • A new website details every candidate: www.tusc2015.com
  • TUSC will launch its manifesto in Canary Wharf at 11am on Friday 10 April, the day after candidate nominations close.
  • On 17 April the TUSC broadcast will go out. On BBC2 at 5.55pm, ITV at 6.25pm and BBC1 at 6.55pm
TUSC Chair and ex-Labour MP Dave Nellist said:

“In this election there is a ‘stark choice’ – do you vote for the parties who have a record of passing on cuts to the working class – no matter what they say in the debates and in their press releases – or do you vote for TUSC? For TUSC the choice is clear. Do we make the super-rich pay or the rest of us? Our policies of a £10 an hour minimum wage, no cuts and privatisation, and rent control, show we take the side of the 99%.

“Last week as the Tories and Labour became election pen pals we saw Labour muster up a list of workers and others to sign their response to the Tory big-business backed letter. Well TUSC does better than that – working class people are our candidates, the people we think best suited to defend our families and communities in parliament. We have firefighters, nurses, teachers, social workers, train drivers, and more. We also have students, young workers fighting low pay, campaigners against the bedroom tax and people with a record of standing up for their communities.”

As TUSC co-founder and former RMT general secretary Bob Crow said: “The Tories, Lib Dems and Labour all support cuts, privatisation and the anti-union laws. They all want us to pay for a crisis we didn’t create. The bankers pay themselves millions in bonuses and big business avoids billions in taxes while our jobs and services are savaged. The Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition does what it says on the tin – without any of the baggage and big-business agenda of the main parties. Who else you gonna vote for?”
