Hull workers reject ‘austerity lite’

0n 15 November angry and determined workers lobbied Hull city council to demand that Labour councillors keep their election promises: no compulsory redundancies!

Last year Labour regained control of the council, largely with the support of the trade unions, after the Lib Dems’ regime implemented savage cuts.

The council meeting ended early with councillors running home scared to avoid the wrath of the workforce.

However, the four Labour councillors prepared to stand by their principles and pledge to vote against all cuts in jobs and services spoke to the rally.

One of the four councillors, Gary Wharing, said: “What we don’t want from Labour is ‘Austerity Lite’, we need a campaign locally and nationally to fight back!”
