Come to the NSSN national conference
Dave Gorton, NSSN Communications Officer
The latest anti-union law proposal for strike ballots to need 50% turnouts is not about ‘democracy’ – it is a pre-emptive strike by the Tories to make it harder for workers to fight further cuts. Well, we should pre-empt the use of these laws!
On the day the proposals are being debated in parliament, the Trades Union Congress should call a huge demonstration in London. And then we need to threaten further action.
Legal attacks on trade unions are nothing new. Governments and their friends in the judiciary have always acted on behalf of big business to curb workers’ rights.
Under capitalism, the accumulation of private profit is king for which the ruling class will do anything – unless us ordinary folk stop them!
Crucial
That’s why unions are increasingly crucial. Currently, they are the only mass organisations in Britain with the power to shift this government.
There are over six million workers in trade unions. There are potentially millions more who would flood into membership if the unions flexed their muscles and demonstrated they were prepared to fight.
The next few weeks and months are vital in the struggle to demonstrate our ability to fight back. If you are a union steward, an activist, a campaigner or even if you’re just considering the possibility of getting involved, then the annual conference of the National Shop Stewards Network is for you!
Come and join like-minded people in hearing some excellent speakers from the fighting wing of trade unionism and take part in discussing how we can build the anti-austerity resistance.
