Inspirational Jarrow march enters its last two weeks

The Jarrow March for Jobs, organised by Youth Fight for Jobs (YFJ), is now in its 23rd day and has reached Coventry.

Braving blisters, fatigue, the colder weather, nights spent on floors and other hardships, the marchers are inspirational in their determination and stamina.

They are receiving a great response in every town they pass through, with many donations being given by people eager to show their support.

Local newspapers and television and radio stations have shown significant interest, turning up to seek interviews and fresh news of the marchers' progress.

When the marchers arrived in Coventry (from their previous stop in Nuneaton) they were joined by members of Coventry Socialist Party and a number of other local people, and were led through the streets and shopping precincts by Coventry Socialist Party councillor Dave Nellist.

As the lively march progressed through the city, Dave used a megaphone to tell everybody what it is all about - the fight for a future for all young people.

Some school and college students were so impressed when they saw the march passing that they diverted from their routes home to join it for a while.

The local branch of the Communication Workers Union sponsored a much appreciated reception for the marchers on Friday evening to welcome them to Coventry, with drinks and hot food.

Then on Saturday there was a second march through the city, an afternoon rally at the Methodist Central Hall, and an evening gig (more info on these events will be posted soon).

The march will leave Coventry on Tuesday and head for London, passing through Rugby, Daventry, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Luton and Hatfield.

After marching the full 330 miles from Jarrow , it arrives in London on Wednesday 2nd November and has its grand finale on Saturday 5th November.
