Salford university
THERE IS an ongoing campaign against the so-called 'Project Headroom' - a plan to make £7 million of 'savings' at Salford University through 150 redundancies and the cutting of courses.
On 12 March, a demonstration against this plan was staged at the university by the Salford Uni Defend Education (SUDE) campaign. Around 50 people were present at the protest, with UCU and student union banners being carried and some people playing drums, with one sounding a horn. Socialist Party members play an important part in the SUDE campaign and were prominent on the demonstration.
The aim of the demo was to deliver petitions against the plans to the vice-chancellor and registrar. Neither of these two was present to meet the protesters, instead sending a subordinate worker to collect the petitions.
