“It’s time for Wes Streeting to find a credible path to pay restoration. Failing that, we’ll be calling for a strike of resident doctors [formerly known as junior doctors] across England, with dates to follow”, the British Medical Association (BMA) has said. More than 90% voted to strike on a 55% turnout.
Doctors in England and Wales were awarded a 5.4% pay increase by the government. RPI inflation is currently at 4.3%, the BMA argues the pay rise is not enough to repair years of real-terms cuts.
