£27,500 raised for socialist struggle worldwide

Isai Marijerla, Socialist Party treasurer

The donations we receive show the support for our ideas – fighting for a socialist world, free of war, oppression, and exploitation. We expose the lies of capitalism – that there is no money for public spending or for a real pay rise for all, or that austerity is the only choice.

No, it’s a political choice made by right-wing politicians defending the bosses, big business, and the capitalist system. Last year, UK billionaire wealth increased by £35 million a day to £182 billion. This is enough to cover the whole of Manchester in £10 notes, almost 1.5 times over. There is more than enough wealth.

What do we need?

We say take the wealth of these greedy, exploitative billionaires, and use it for the majority for the jobs, homes, and services we need. But to do this, we need to fight for it.

Socialist Party members have organised local campaigns and meetings, fighting for what we need. Our campaign stalls on fully funded NHS services always receive a positive response.

We also had many people approaching us to discuss our ideas on how to turn Your Party into a new mass workers’ party, with real democracy and accountability. Our demand that the new party must have a socialist programme is getting people engaged. Readers of the Socialist paper have donated after reading about developments in Your Party, as we put forward what is needed.

We also received donations at anti-war demonstrations, university freshers’ fair activities, and at our public meetings. Socialist Party members have also raised funds in other ways.

A member, for example, donated £50 from a music gig they participated in. Others have organised car boot sales, summer BBQs, socialist walking tours, Women’s Rugby World Cup sweepstakes, and many more.

As well as our fantastic fighting fund collection, we have also hit our £25,000 target to support the work of the socialist international organisation we are part of – the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI). Socialist Party members in England and Wales have raised over £27,500 towards that.

Struggle across globe

We are boldly fighting for socialism across the globe. With powerful mass demonstrations taking place in France, Italy, Spain, Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, Greece, and Madagascar, there is no shortage of struggle.

The funds we raise are used to build the socialist ideas needed for these movements to win, and to fight for a system that puts the majority’s interests first.

There is no rest for the struggle for socialism. The start of this month starts another quarter, and the target to raise £25,000 has been reset.

The current quarter is normally our busiest. This is when we host the biggest serious socialist event of the year – Socialism 2025.
