Abolition of EMA – Socialist Party’s Linda Taaffe speaks on Radio two

Linda Taaffe, Socialist Party member and secretary of the National Shop Stewards Network, on the BBC 2 Jeremy Vine show 19 January 2011, said that the Education Maintenance Allowance should not be abolished.

The real criminals, who abuse money that they get, are not the students.

The EMA costs around £560 million a year, but compared to the bonuses the bankers get: – “they could club their bonuses together and pay for EMA for ten to fifteen years…

“Goldman Sachs are awarding £10 billion in bonuses which could easily pay for the EMA.”
