Leader of the GKN factory occupation in Florence, Italy – Dario Salvetti – spoke at a meeting in London on 19 May. The struggle, similar to that of the Lucas Aerospace struggle in Britain the 1970s, has been going for nearly two years now. Hundreds of workers have been struggling to save their jobs. In Britain too, GKN workers have been involved in a fight to save jobs (see ‘Save jobs, save livelihoods, save GKN Automotive – nationalise the plant!’ at socialistparty.org.uk).

The Florence ‘Collective’ has drawn up plans for producing component parts for environmentally friendly forms of transport, and has won popular support.

A leaflet, written by Socialist Party member Marco Tesei, who recently visited the Florence occupation, was handed out at the meeting and can be read at tinyurl.com/2rjfs8ht
