Steph Bowie, Swindon Socialist Party

I’m used to a newspaper representing a ‘rag’. Left on the train on the way to an interview for a job I wouldn’t get, nothing made me want to pick it up. These people weren’t talking about what I cared about.

I am used to publications littered with advertisements. Content that no one wants to see. The whole thing stinks of the most foul smell – profit.

The Socialist, this newspaper in your hands, is not that rag. Through this newspaper, working-class people can share our discussions.

My Swindon Socialist Party branch just discussed the importance of having a physical publication to sell, for the people, by the people.

It is no small feat to run a print publication that does not rely on the funding of capitalist advertisers.

We cover a good amount of our printing and postage fees with the sales and subscriptions of the Socialist. But with our intention to grow, more fighting fund is needed support the Socialist Party.

We don’t take profit, and give it to shareholders. The Socialist Party has no shareholders!

All of our media comes from you. Our members and supporters write the body of the stories, articles and content.

And we also ask those who support what we say to donate what you can to, quite literally, fund the revolution.

We are the fighting fund. All of us who buy the paper and then donate more.

I know that when I donate, it isn’t going to some privately contracted third party. It goes to our fighting fund.

It pays for the infrastructure of the Socialist Party. And a portion of everything you donate goes to expand the fight for socialism across the world, with the Committee for a Workers’ International.

So donate what you can. Together we can fund the fight for socialist revolution.
