Water companies want to raise bills by an average of £84 a year by 2025, and £156 by 2030 – on top of inflation. Government watchdog Ofwat will have the final say.
A total of £66 billion has been paid out in dividends by water companies since privatisation. The Socialist Party says the way to lower water bills and invest in infrastructure is to take the water companies back into public ownership, this time under the democratic control of the working class and with no compensation for the existing fat cat bosses.
