We heard from Tory politicians ranting at their conference, offering no alternative other than divisive policies and blaming us for their mistakes. Now it’s New Labour politicians’ turn.

They, like the Tories, will not put forward policies in our interests. Labour under Sir Keir Starmer has proved to big business and the capitalist class that, under its control, Britain will be a safe place for them to invest and make profit. Few disagree that it would be almost impossible to be worse than the Tories. But not being as bad as the Tories is not good enough.

It’s not good enough for the 4.2 million people living in poverty, 7.68 million people on NHS waiting lists, or all the workers who have been made worse off by wage stagnation, low pay and the cost-of-living crisis.

One of the biggest crises facing the working class and young people is one of lack of political representation. We need a party that fights for our class. We need politicians who will stand up for our rights. One that will vote against cuts to jobs and services. One that will fight for rent control and carry out a mass, affordable, council house building programme.

The Socialist Party has been campaigning for a new mass workers’ party. We are part of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition and have been boldly standing under this banner and taking part in elections to offer a genuine alternative as a step in that fight. A Socialist Party Scotland member stood in the Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election in Scotland and a Socialist Party member is standing in the Earlsdon Ward by-election in Coventry and in Higham Hill ward in Waltham Forest, East London.

Under capitalism, it’s not easy to fight for a party of the working class. No capitalists or companies are going to sponsor it. Only our class can fund such a party. If you agree with us and want to support us fighting for an alternative, please make a donation today on socialistparty.org.uk/donate

Every quarter, we have a target to raise £25,000 to ensure we have the funds to carry out our day-to-day tasks and produce the materials and leaflets taking our ideas as far and wide as possible.
