‘Save Our Services in Surrey’ statement

Woking council is in crisis, and is looking at massive cuts to services. Guildford council says it is not far behind. Surrey Heath and Spelthorne have massive debts.

The next few months will see cuts in public services like never before in Surrey, and Save Our Services in Surrey want to have our say in fighting back.

We produced an excellent manifesto (see sosis.org.uk) earlier this year, which pledged to fight against all cuts in services, and to call on candidates for council office to refuse to make cuts.

This is our opportunity to turn those words into a reality by coming together as a community and making a stand.

We are also supporters of the National Shop Stewards Network (NSSN), which organised a public meeting on 8 October in Guildford – ‘How can trade unionists prepare for the battles ahead?’

And we are holding a public, open, meeting in November to plan our campaign, with the possibility of a major lobby of the council meeting in February, where the full extent of the budget cuts will be known.
