There was a huge turnout of hundreds of striking Go North East bus workers at a combined picket at their Gateshead depot, so big they spilled out onto the road. It was a sea of Unite flags and hi-vis, with a mood that even the arrival of the police couldn’t dampen. Small drones were used to record footage for the union. Music and food fuelled the enthusiastic strikers, who are determined to fight for pay to match their colleagues in Go North West, which is owned by the same company, and to stop the attacks on their conditions.
