Vote TUSC on 2 May
Mila Hughes, Coventry Socialist Party
The Tories have spent 14 years hammering services and living standards down.
Costs of bills, housing, food and fuel are still rising with no sign of it ending. Public services face cut-throat cuts. Industries that used to be public – energy, water, mail, rail, steel – are in private hands, the bosses raking in monster profits.
The rich keep getting richer while everything crumbles.
During and after every crisis of the bosses’ system, they and their politicians get the working class to foot the bill. We are continuously paying more with cuts, to be met with fewer and fewer public services.
Instead of standing up and protecting working-class communities from Tory cuts, Labour councils across the country vote for further huge cuts and even more charges!
Keir Starmer’s Labour seems to be cut from the same cloth as Rishi Sunak. Labour’s shadow health secretary Wes Streeting took to the pages of the vile anti-worker Sun to have a go at NHS workers, threatening to withhold extra NHS funding if they refuse to work weekends. It’s clear that they would look to prioritise the interests of big businesses over the working class.
This has to end. We need a party to fight on our side against the bosses – a working-class alternative to take on the super-rich.
Britain is the sixth-richest country in the world, no one should have to go without food or a roof over their heads. We can afford decent health and social care, free education, council services. The wealth is there but it’s in the wrong hands. We need socialist change.
A starting point is to vote for socialist candidates in the local elections on 2 May. Socialist Party members are standing in the elections as part of TUSC (Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition). Get involved and help our campaigns.
