Final push for May Day greetings: Fund the paper that fights for workers

Scott Jones, the Socialist May Day greetings organiser

We need you to support the Socialist by sending May Day greetings and you have a week to do so!

The Socialist backs workers taking action and is usually the only place to report on these struggles, whether its Sanctuary housing workers fighting for union recognition and a pay rise, or Birmingham Amazon workers stepping up their action for better pay.

We stand against war, poverty and all forms of oppression under capitalism and fight for a socialist alternative – including the building of a new workers’ party – and we are covering the dozens of election campaigns by socialists in a step towards that. The Socialist calls for independent, socialist, working-class political representation.

To maintain an independent voice for working-class interests, we need finance. It goes without saying that the big advertisers won’t touch us, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Our funding comes from the workers’ movement. May Day greetings are a vital part of that.

So celebrate International Workers’ Day 2024 in the traditional workers’ movement way, by sending May Day greetings. May Day is an annual celebration of workers’ struggle against capitalism. Its origins lie in the general strike for an eight-hour working day. Each year, we ask groups of workers and trade unionists to support the Socialist newspaper and its revolutionary, anti-war, pro-working-class ideas by financing a May Day greeting.

Can your trade union branch, community campaign, workplace colleagues, trade union council or student society send us a donation and short message of solidarity? We publish these each year on International Workers’ Day.
