South Yorkshire journalists on indefinite strike from Friday

The South Yorkshire National Union of Journalists (NUJ) newspapers chapel voted unanimously for an all-out indefinite strike from Friday 15 July.

This is against the loss of five editorial posts, including halving the number of journalists on the South Yorkshire Times (SYT).

The SYT editor is one of the staff earmarked for the sack. He has been a strong advocate for quality journalism, so NUJ members see this dispute as important for the quality of the newspapers as well as on the issue of jobs.
