Desdemona Stott, Swindon Socialist Party
Swindon Socialist Party has achieved a milestone – holding two campaign stalls across two towns. For a relatively young and small Socialist Party branch, we were encouraged to act decisively on our plans to host a stall in Chippenham by older Socialist Party members.
Not everyone was gracious towards our presence, a challenge every stall endures. But this was offset by an overwhelming amount of like-minded people. All of whom were angry at Labour’s policies, an overwhelming majority of these people felt betrayed by Starmer.
A kind member of the public, who was once involved with young socialist movements, said: “I have never seen socialists out here before”. With these thoughtful words, we were emboldened.
More people spoke of their struggles with disability, homelessness, and worry over future cuts. We were able to express our positions strongly and coherently on these issues, and expressed our support.
We sold out of Socialist papers on our Chippenham stall, raising £55 across our two stalls, including selling 20 Socialist papers. Try out a new location, I would highly recommend it.
