Adam Gillman, Socialist Students national organiser
Trump is coming to Britain and there is so much anger out there. People can see how he nakedly acts in the interests of the super-rich by attacking ordinary people, and by trying to sow division.
He has launched attacks on government workers, ramped up action deporting migrant workers, attacked women’s rights to access abortions, threatened the rights of trans people, and backs the Israeli state’s bombardment and onslaught on Gaza.
We are organising student walkouts against Trump on Day X – the day he visits parliament.
“Why would they let him visit? And Starmer, I hate him even more!” is what one student told us outside of Lewisham College in south London. Like Trump, Starmer is acting in the interests of the super-rich and using divide-and-rule tactics too.
We met lots of angry young people in Lewisham who want to organise a walkout, and lots signed up at a recent Gaza demo too. Socialist Students wants to help build in schools, colleges and universities up and down the country.
How can you protest Trump’s visit?
Organise a meeting at your school, college or uni
- Discuss with your friends and classmates – invite them to a meeting, it could be in a classroom, cafeteria or even a local cafe
- Make a social media graphic to share, posters to put up, and leaflets to distribute to get people along
Organise a protest on Day X
- Once we know the date of Trump’s visit to parliament, put out a time and place for the protest
- Bring a megaphone and banners, make up some chants, and invite some speakers to explain why they are protesting
