Refat, Birmingham Socialist Party
Since the start of this war, protests in support of Palestine have been nonstop, including more than 400 people on 12 July. People from all walks of life stood together, displaying an unwavering commitment to end Israeli military occupation and the killing of the innocent.
I was lucky to speak to many individuals at the latest protest, whilst handing out leaflets for the Socialist Party. You could see the passion and love that they had for the cause. Happy to be there, to be part of something bigger.
In recent protests, Labour-backed police have harassed some protesters, arresting them for nonsensical reasons. This time, the police manhandled an individual with a t-shirt calling out the Israeli army, but he was not arrested after many of the protesters intervened.
The protest showed how united people are in the face of a Labour government that is becoming more authoritarian every day, as it supports war and imperialism in the Middle East, while oppressing workers and the most vulnerable in Britain.
