Reading Socialist Party members gave our support to a very well-attended National Education Union (NEU) picket line on 15 July.
Around 50 members at the Maiden Erlegh Trust ‘community of schools’ were there, experiencing lots of support from passing motorists.
The dispute revolves around increasing workload and pay cuts to TLRs – a teaching and learning responsibilities role. NEU members are defending fair working conditions and standing against unfair cuts.
We discussed with a striker who told us “It’s just not right” that the CEO of the Trust was on about £200,000 and yet they are facing pay cuts. They are striking to protect education and making a difference through supporting each other.
The dispute will be carried on in September if no resolution is found. Strikers thanked us for our support, and we said we’d be back if needed in September!
