The Great Money Trick: Another World is Possible

Book review

The Great Money Trick: Another World is Possible

If you have read Robert Tressell’s the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, then this book is for you. And if you haven’t, you will still enjoy it.

How have the former mining communities pulled together after the strike? What is it like living in these areas now? And just how does the capitalist system work?

Mary Jackson, a Socialist Party member, is a gutsy ‘salt of the earth’ fighter who has lived in this south Yorkshire community all her life. She was inspired into activity after reading Tressell and over the last 15 years has desperately wanted to update its message. Finally her biographical short story is in print and it packs a punch.

Give yourself a long evening and you will get through it, and feel uplifted and full of hope. Mary tells it as it is.

The book burns with indignation about the way mining communities have been left to rot and the way working class communities have been hit again under successive pro-big business governments.

But it also brims with confidence about the mission to build a better future. It explains, through the eyes of the key characters, how capitalism has worked its ‘great money trick’ over the 99%.

You will want to get to the end to see how this drama ends. But this is based on real life and the struggle is not yet over. Do yourself a favour and get a copy and hopefully you will be inspired to join Mary in her fight for a better future.
