Workplace news in brief

Probation workers

Probation workers in England and Wales organised by public sector union Unison had expected to take strike action for 24 hours on 11 June after employers have failed to improve a 0% pay-rise offer. However, at the eleventh hour, Unison's Probation Committee the suspended the strike "in order to allow further talks to take place".

Tata Steel

Steel unions have agreed 22 June as the date for industrial action at Tata Steel in their ongoing pensions dispute. The stoppage will be preceded by an overtime ban and a work to rule.

Essex firefighters and 999 control workers

Firefighters and 999 control staff in Essex are preparing for further strikes on against job losses on 13 and 14 June. Alan Chinn-Shaw, secretary of the Fire Brigades Union in Essex, said: "These are unprecedented cuts which would see more than a quarter of all Essex frontline firefighters axed."

Yorkshire journalist victimised

Bosses at the Rotherham Advertiser have served a compulsory redundancy notice to only one staff member - National Union of Journalists representative Phil Turner. Members will strike against the move on 11 June.

Sam Morecroft

London Royal Parks

Gardeners in London's Royal Parks are in dispute over changes to pay and conditions that leave them out of pocket. General union GMB has called a strike on 12 and 13 June.

National Gallery

Gallery staff organised by public sector union PCS continue to take action against privatisation and a victimised union rep.
