Around 100 trade unionists and students came to support the rally called by lecturers’ union UCU on 4 March in Leeds. Speakers from UCU, PCS, Leeds University Against Cuts and local MPs addressed the rally on the “insanity” of cutting higher education.
Although the strikes at Leeds university have been called off, the cuts still loom large. Any attempt by management to renege on the promises secured by UCU should be met with reinstatement of the strike action. The continuing campaign sends a clear message to university management and the government: we won’t pay for your crisis.
