Coventry council is no exception to the rule of Labour treating workers badly. Striking bin workers attended a Coventry Socialist Party public meeting on 30 March supporting their strike. We also discussed the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) challenge in the elections.

Bin workers spoke about how the council has mistreated the workers and cut services. Eight striking Coventry bin workers have joined the Socialist Party.

Hannah Sell, Socialist Party general secretary, spoke about the importance of building a new mass workers’ party. Socialist Party member Dave Nellist, national TUSC chair and a former socialist MP and councillor in Coventry, also spoke. Working-class people see the vital need for an alternative to the capitalist polices of Tories and Labour.
