Campaigning against a new incinerator in Kirby
Campaigning against a new incinerator in Kirby

75 Kirkby residents marched to protest plans to build an industrial incinerator just across the border from Knowsley in Lancashire. Knowsley councillors were conspicuous by their absence. All the speakers at the 30 April protest brought optimistic energy to the proceedings.

Knowsley Labour council has been aware of the planning application for two years, but has taken no action. Residents were only made aware in January. The support from the public was overwhelming, with cars horns beeping and applause at the sight of people taking a stand in a town that has been neglected for decades. The next stage is to take the fight to Lancashire County Council, in whose area the incinerator would be built.
