Campaign Kazakhstan lobby on Friday – Free Aron Atabek!

Campaign Kazakhstan will be holding a protest on Friday 5 October at 1pm outside the Kazakhstan Embassy, 33 Thurloe Square, London, SW7 2SD.

The protest is to demand the immediate release of Aron Atabek, a dissident poet and writer in Kazakhstan who was jailed for 18 years after being convicted in 2007 of ‘orchestrating’ a mass protest against the demolition of a workers’ shanty-town, Shanrak.

Campaigners will be joined by Aron’s wife and son, who came to London to participate in a Campaign Kazakhstan fundraising concert.

The concert, on Tuesday 2 October with Cellorhythmics performing, was very successful and raised £1,000 in support of those affected by last year’s Zhanaozen massacre, where police fired on protesting workers, killing many.
