Shelter workers angry at management

TWO DAYS of strike action and two more to follow was enough to bring an intransigent Shelter senior management back to talks with the union. Up until last week, they had been refusing to negotiate further with union representatives.

However, the hopes for meaningful talks were dashed when managers refused to address the issues of most concern to staff: downgraded jobs, longer hours and loss of incremental pay. A new, minimal offer from management has angered union members, who are now being balloted on whether to accept or reject the offer. The union is recommending a rejection of the offer and a return to strike action.
