Over 1,422 people have signed an online petition, initiated by 35 leading trade unionists, calling for the trade unions themselves to spearhead the formation of a new workers’ party. Hundreds more have signed the physical petition at trade union conferences and other events this summer.

To follow up on the initial launch, a national Zoom meeting has been organised to discuss the campaign in more detail, including next campaign steps in the structures of different trade unions.

Different strategies will be needed for affiliated and non-affiliated unions, ranging from challenging Labour funding and building new relationships with independent MPs, such as Jeremy Corbyn (as the UCU conference has done), to organising conferences and forums within and across unions to determine the next steps.

The Zoom meeting is on Monday 21 July, starting at 6:30pm

An invitation is being sent to all petition signatories, and all trade unionists are welcome.
