Elaine Brunskill, Newcastle Socialist Party

There was anger at cuts in the council and NHS on our Socialist Party campaign stall, and growing rage at Keir Starmer’s Labour. There was support for the workers and young people in Minneapolis struggling against ICE.

There was also support for what Liverpool’s socialist City Council did in the 1980s – it fought Margaret Thatcher’s Tories, and won big concessions. Even Melania Trump’s film, which is flopping, got a mention.

One woman had apologised to us as she had no money to buy a Socialist paper. As we had finished up and were walking away, she rushed up to us.

She’d seen a friend and had borrowed money to give us. She also thanked us for being out on the street campaigning.
