Adam Tyas is a new Coventry Socialist Party member, and a first-time attendee at our regional conference in the West Midlands.

Over 40 Socialist Party members from across the West Midlands met on 8 February to discuss the incredibly fast moving national and international events, and the difference the Socialist Party is making in our respective areas, and beyond.

Events have not come out of thin air, but from a thick stink at the heart of a rotten capitalist system. Jeffrey Epstein, and the exploitation of the corrupt capitalist class, is on show for all.

Donald Trump has revealed bare face the true brutality of the capitalist world order. But the working class is beginning to re-enter the scene.

Young people want to take a stand and build a better future for themselves. The whole working class is moving away from the established capitalist parties. The Socialist Party is helping to organise the next generation of socialists.

The need for a new workers’ party is there. We need to use every platform, including by standing as widely as possible in the May local elections, using the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) banner, to get that message across. My own Coventry Socialist Party helping organise a ‘people’s budget’ conference is an example of this.

For over a year, Birmingham Socialist Party has been supporting striking bin workers. The Labour council has now spent over £30 million to try and break the strike.

We’re taking steps to grow, develop, and relaunch Socialist Party branches in Stoke and Shropshire. Student members support Socialist Students campaigning against fees and cuts at universities.

The important role of the Socialist paper was highlighted, and the debates and arguments carried within it. The conference was a success in continuing strong regional work to fight for a socialist future.
