There is no doubt that far-right ideas and divisive policies need to be challenged and defeated. Crisis-driven, war-ridden capitalism needs divisions and exploitation to survive.
It’s not only the far right that stirs and promotes racist and divisive policies. All the establishment parties, including Labour, use divisive policies to shift the blame away from them and the bosses they represent. But let’s be clear: it is their system that is the root cause of the multiple crises we face.
Socialists push for maximum unity of the working class and young people. Workers from all backgrounds have more in common with one another than with billionaires and capitalists. We share collective struggles and are stronger united. The working class is the force in society that can end this profit-driven capitalist system.
The Socialist Party has been campaigning for a mass trade union-led movement against racism, the far right and divisive policies. Our members in the trade unions have pushed for and won support at TUC Congress that it should lead a movement ‘for jobs, homes, not racism’. Such a struggle can unite the working class in a struggle against the real enemy.
Divide and rule is an age-old tactic used by the ruling class to divide the working class so that they can maintain their power and their system.
