There are mass movements rising all over Europe.
In France, hundreds of thousands of school students have walked out in protest over lack of teachers, crumbling buildings, and ridiculous timetables. In Germany, young people have protested against conscription and militarisation. In Spain, mass demonstrations against evictions have forced a general election.
Here in Britain, three trade unions are balloting for nationwide strike action. Socialist Students is building for an International Youth Walkout on 20 November, when students and youth will join across Europe under the slogan, “Fight for our futures, not their wars”.
What next?
Mass protests, youth walkouts, national strikes – where next? How can these movements coordinate to fight and win? And what’s needed now to fight for socialist change, and build a society where everyone has a decent future – where no one goes cold, hungry, or homeless?
Socialism 2026 will be a weekend of discussion and debate on these key questions, taking place over 14 and 15 November at the Institute of Education in central London. There will be over 40 workshops on youth movements, trade unions and strike action, working-class political representation, history, socialist theory, and more.
There will be two rallies. On Saturday, we’ll hear from leading members of trade unions preparing for strike action, and Socialist Party general secretary Hannah Sell presenting our ideas on how to change the world.
On Sunday, the rally is hosted by Socialist Students, a founding organisation of the 20 November youth strike, with speakers from youth organisations participating in France, Germany, Spain, and Italy.
Buying a ‘golden ticket’ gets you accommodation overnight in a nearby hostel. Everyone can get a 10% discount up to 5pm on Friday 13 November, with special offers for school, college, and university students. And a free crèche runs throughout the weekend.
