Fight for a real alternative, reject the politics of hate and division

In several towns and cities on the weekend 17-18 October, workers and young people gathered to oppose far-right activists marching, or otherwise took part in ‘unity’ rallies that trade unions had played a role in organising.

In Swansea, Socialist Party members took part in a local anti-fascist counter-protest, that had been organised by Stand Up To Racism. Socialist Party member Rhys addressed the crowd:

“The rise of the far-right isn’t born out of thin air, it is born out of desperation. People are desperate for a political alternative. When Labour fail them, as they have been, when Keir Starmer passes the cuts and Andy Burnham follows suit, people are desperate for an alternative.

“It is integral that we as anti-racists and anti-fascists do not let Reform and the far right become that alternative.

“Across Europe, people have been standing up. Students have been standing up to austerity and cuts that their capitalist governments have been passing. On 20 November, we are standing in solidarity with them. We are calling on college students, uni students and young people to walk out in support of ending war, against austerity politics, and against the politics of the capitalist system.

“The French students have been in an incredible struggle against their government. The German students have also been in this struggle. It has kicked off across Belgium, Spain, Italy and it will come here on 20 November.

“Join us on 20 November. We’ll be outside Fulton House at Swansea uni Singleton campus and at Gorseinon College gates for 12 noon. I encourage everyone to take part. Say no to the politics of hate and division!”
