Yorkshire Socialist Party

48 people attended the Sheffield Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) public meeting held on 9 February, including nine at their first such meeting.

Steve McGowan, (Fire Brigades Union rep) and Paul Suter (regional organiser for the PCS civil service union), both speaking in a personal capacity, explained their unions’ current disputes and the need for co-ordinated strike action.

Sue Statter (former Labour councillor, now TUSC candidate) reported back from the discussions at the TUSC national conference endorsing policy platforms for the upcoming elections. And Alistair Tice (Sheffield TUSC agent and Socialist Party organiser) argued that Starmer’s Labour does not represent us and that we need a new workers’ party.

Sheffield TUSC, with the support of the local RMT branch, is gearing up to stand over 20 candidates in May’s council elections. TUSC candidates will put forward an anti-cuts, socialist alternative to Sheffield’s ‘collaborative council’ of Labour, Lib-Dems and Greens.

Visit www.tusc.org.uk for details on how to apply to be a local election candidate before the next TUSC steering committee on 22 February.
